LUKE RITCHIE ~ BEDSPACE
~ RUSSELL JOSLIN
The debut album by LUKE
RITCHIE's band, Sevenball, was described by Blues Matters! magazine as
a "a blistering rock album... vocalist Luke Ritchie, who definitely has
a Paul Rodgers feel about him as he commands every song." More
recently, he returned from Prague after working on the soundtrack to
Horem Padem, one the most successful films ever made in the Czech
Republic. The director Jan Hrejbek and composer Ales Bresina heard
Luke’s voice in London, and invited him over to the Czech
Republic to work on the film’s soundtrack.
”sky-scraping vocals” [The Guardian]
In BEDSPACE's Phil Christy and Jonny Latimer's own words, they "met
while sharing a crackpipe at a flower show, argued about the best type
of pencil and struck up a beautiful friendship." They also write some
of the most intoxicating, heartbreaking, bitter-sweet sunshine pop
songs since Simon met Garfunkel but with a distinct British indie-pop
sensibility. Criss-crossing acoustic guitars seem to morph into the
sound of a harp at times and the twin vocal harmonies are some of the
most sublime you'll get to hear this side of the Pearly Gates.
Punky sea shanties and tender ballads from RUSSELL JOSLIN: "...an intoxicating mix of arrogant honesty and awesome creativity..." [Toxic Pete]... "a genuinely unsettling and brave debut, this album demands attention..." [Tasty Fanzine]

FAUSTUS
Album
Launch
~ THE KITTIWAKES
Forget nu-folk, alt-folk, psych-folk and all your other folks for a
minute. This is the real deal, passed down through the roots of
generations of legendary English folk families and injected with
zeitgeist by the latest generation to create something of their own and
a unique, thrilling and intimate live experience.
This is the sound of three of England's finest traditional musicians,
exceeding even the highest expectations of their well documented,
individual talents. They combine to create those rare and precious, raw
musical moments that live on long after the event.
Since forming out of the ashes of Dr Faustus at Sidmouth Folk Festival
2005, FAUSTUS have established themselves as a major force on the
English roots scene. Looking forward to their third season of touring
and with the debut album "Faustus" out in May on Navigator Records, the
band goes from strength to strength. All three members have been
instrumental in the English revival of the last ten years:
Saul Rose is
one of the country's finest Melodeon players, haivng spent a quarter of
a century mastering the thing! When he's not working with Faustus he's
busy with countless other projects.
Paul Sartin is
a hugely versatile musician counting Christchurch Cathedral Choir and
Dr Faustus amongst his past bands. He is also an integral part of
ground-breaking folk supegroup, Bellowhead, with whom he plays oboe,
fiddle, vocals and lends his inimitable jazz mc technique.
Also a key member of Bellowhead, fretboard wizard Benji
Kirkpatrick
makes up the final third of Faustus. Recently Benji has released his
3rd solo album "Boomerang" on Navigator Records, the album features
(amongst others) the Mercury nominated Seth Lakeman. Benji has worked
on Seth's albums, with the Oysterband Big Session and of course, Dr.
Faustus, he continues to play in his fathers ceilidh band Mr Gubbins
Bicycle.
THE KITTIWAKES are
Kate Denny on vocals and violin, Chris Harrison on accordion and Jill
Cumberbatch on violin, mandolin, banjo and guitar. They recently
released 'Lofoten Calling,' (available free to download from
Woven Wheat Whispers), an EP of original music based around the people,
landscape, folklore and history of the Lofoten Islands, - an area above
the Arctic Circle in Norway. The music is song based, and influenced by
traditional British Isles and Norwegian folk music. The band are
planning to release their first album in the Autumn.
"The Kittiwakes (rissa tridactyla): delicious, intriguing and evocative music, beautifully played and sung by this talented trio. Recommended to twitchers and lovers of folk music alike" [Leigh Folk Festival]
"The Kittiwakes craft timeless and magical acoustically dappled folk treats - gentle and alluring ostensibly Gaelic in sound texture and gorgeously flighty braided as they are by corteges of mandolins, accordions and violins." - [Losing Today]

LEWIS GARLAND & THE KETT REBELLION have
been highly acclaimed for their energetic yet intimate performances,
the group’s klezmer-folk sound providing the perfect complement
to Lewis’s intricate, often caustic, wordplay. They have
previously supported Lou Rhodes, Nizlopi and Faustus member, Benji
Krikpatrick.
"a great voice, a brilliant guitarist and interesting lyrics... Lewis Garland is a singer songwriter with a difference" [BBC Radio Warwickshire]
"Really thoughtful lyrics" [Karine Polwart]
"These young chancers from Coventry
bucked the trend, turned down the PA and the stage and set up right in
the middle of the barn!... they started to play, people hushed and were
treated to what in my mind was the best performance the Barn has seen
so far. These guys are ridiculously good and gave a flavour to folk
that I will want to taste for years to come"

THE SHADOW ORCHESTRA are a super-collision of percussive harp, crazed
bebop drums, and glacial waves of guitar; shamanic cello, married with
primal electronica, creating a melodic cacophony that is as cerebral as
it is soulful. An expression of our fragmented musical landscape, The
Shadow Orchestra celebrate the common ground that exists between 20th
century classical, pre-fusion jazz, late 80s indie, and the joyous
experimentation of early dance.
The Band is producer and cellist Chris Bangs, co-producer and guitarist
Chris Warren, Kat Arney on harp and Dave Oliver on drums. The band
released their critically acclaimed eponymous debut album in 2005,
described as a creative homage of many musical influences from the
experimental electronica of Aphex Twin, Four Tet and DJ Shadow, to the
multi-rhythmic playing of Ali Farka-Toure and Toumani Diabate, to the
emotional expressionism of Van Morrison’s early releases and the
experimental compositions of Charles Mingus, Moondog and The Penguin
Cafe Orchestra. They have performed at The Big Chill Festival, Cargo and most recently supported DJ Krush at KoKo.
CITY
REVERB is the latest band project of Radio 1 DJ, Chris Coco, and featuring Micky Buccheri on vocals.
This is his most accomplished musical adventure so far. The album, Lost
City Folk and the Grace Reunion, features 12 tracks mixing electronic
and live band elements to create a unique and beautifully atmospheric
sound that Chris describes as Robot Soul.
Chris Coco, has played DJ sets on every continent on earth except
Antarctica. Some of his greatest gigs include the San Siro stadium in
Milan, Pacha and Manumission in Ibiza, outside the Sydney Opera House
in Australia and UK festivals like Glastonbury and Big Chill.
THE SOUND OF BAILEY are the songs of Bailey brought to life with the
help of producer/musician Nick Crofts with any sounds and instruments
they can get there hands on and a little help from freinds. The Sound Of
Bailey perform live as a trio, one of whom is an analogue tape-to-tape machine. In 2005 an album called "The Way That
Things Are Done" was put out on boutique indie label, Folkwit Records, and,
amazingly for such a tiny release, resulted in a radio session for cult
show "Garden of Earthly Delights" and made it into Tasty Fanzines Best
Albums of 2005.

Groove-heavy roots-rock, reggae, alt-soul and
sunshine pop from Matt Falloon and band as the submlime and infectious, SMOKE FEATHERS.
Hailing from Edinburgh, via Bethnal Green, singer-songwriter, Ross
Wilson, describes the sweet, jazz-inflected sound of his ever-mutating
BLUE ROSE CODE collective, as 'Caledonian Soul.' We'd go father, to
compare his yearning songs and distinctively Celtic tones to a younger
Van Morrison gone downtempo after being ship-wrecked on remote a
Scottish islet with only John Martyn and a few classic albums for
company. The band have supported acts as diverse as John Renbourn, Lou
Rhodes and Viking Moses:
'Self-styled 'Caledonian soul' from Blue Rose Code, who flash the
influences of Van Morrison and John Martyn and add subtle jazz notes.'
[TIME OUT]
Bristol's STANTON DELAPLANE has
developed a unique live sound based around live vocal loops and finger
picked acoustic guitar, also incorporated looped euphonium and music
box and the odd bit of banjo and ukelele. In the past year he has
released two EPs, 'Men Dressed As Titans' and 'Mandibular Sweetmeats.'
'A butterfly circles overhead as vaguely ecclesiastical choral looping
opens the wonderfully hirsute
Delaplane's set of comfortingly morbid narratives made splendid with
euphonium, guitar and glockenspiel' [Venue Magazine]
LAURIE MCNAMEE: "Endearingly shy and gentle, with a stage manner blending Bat for Lashes’ Natasha Khan and New Yorkian singer/songwriter , Jaymay,
the room was transfixed by this whispery ethereal, quiet yet powerful
voice, with both insecurity and security expressed simultaneously... a musical prodigy rather than
just another singer with a guitar, Laurie played a heavy wooden harp
just as beautifully as she had played the other instruments... this set in its entirety was the sound of heartbreak; that said,
heartbreak sounds pretty good." [SMASH MUSIC]

THE
MOON MUSIC ORCHESTRA
~ TOM MCKEAN & THE EMPERORS
~ BLUE ROSE
CODE ~ LUKE ROSIER
(Part of Shoreditch's STAG & DAGGER music festival)
Psychedlic West Coast rock'n'roll and folk-influenced collective, THE MOON
MUSIC ORCHESTRA's spiritual home is Borough's Gladstone Arms and who
count Findlay Brown as a floating member:
"The pub we are
sitting in is central to The Moon Music Orchestra story – they part own
the place and have a rehearsal room upstairs. When The Gladstone came
on the market, it was snapped up as the hub for this troupe of
musicians, and they play there for free on the second Saturday of every
month. The band's sound and even The Gladstone in Borough
seems infused with the mood of those halcyon summers when the music of
the West Coast was a seemingly unstoppable artistic and cultural
phenomenon."
[LONDON TOURDATES MAGAZINE]
TOM MCKEAN & THE EMPERORS:
"Tom McKean is in possession of a deep, rich voice and dark, moody songs.
Fantastic" [TIME OUT]
